Inca fills itself with Senegalese culture in a day with fashion, food, and music
The day will conclude at 8 p.m. with a presentation of about thirty creations made by second and third-year students from Esdib
PalmaThe Museum of Footwear and Industry of Inca will host a cultural event on May 14th with participatory activities, an exhibition, and a fashion presentation to highlight the cultural, artisanal, and cooperative ties between Mallorca and Senegal.
The proposal is part of a line of work focused on participatory and social museology, with the aim of turning the museum into a space open to citizens and connected to the territory.
The activities will begin at 5 p.m. with an intercultural space that will include African crafts and culture stalls, participatory workshops, a space for social entities, and information points on cooperation projects developed between Mallorca and different African territories.
The day will also feature a gastronomic offering with Senegalese dishes prepared by the Association of Senegalese from Inca, preparations by volunteers from Punts amb Vida, and a drinks stall with Mama Jambo solidarity and craft beer.
At 5:30 p.m., an open African percussion workshop will take place, led by musician Ibou Kandé with the participation of the Djembe Colors collective, aimed at fostering cooperation and group cohesion through music.
One of the central axes of the program will be the inauguration, at 7 p.m., of a temporary exhibition dedicated to the links between Inca and Senegal, built from the joint work between entities, creators and the Senegalese community of the municipality.
The exhibition will address cooperation projects promoted from Inca, works developed by students from the Higher School of Design of Palma (Esdib) and the relationship between Inca and Ngay Mekhe, two cities with a shoemaking tradition.
The event will conclude at 8 p.m. with a presentation of about thirty creations made by second and third-year students from Esdib inspired by African textiles and cultures, in a proposal accompanied by DJ Rafel Swing and musicians from the Djembe Colors project.
The initiative is promoted by the entities Taula per Àfrica, Fundació Campaner, Punts amb Vida and Inca Mallorca Solidària, with the participation of the Senegalese community of Inca, the City Council and the Shoe Museum.
