MÁS por Palma demands the resignation of the Director of Heritage
Controversy in Palma: MÁS demands resignations due to the lack of protection of historical heritage.
PalmThis Monday, MÁS por Palma demanded the resignation of Pilar Ribal, Director General of Heritage for Palma City Council, and called for an urgent action plan to guarantee the protection of the city's historical heritage.
Councilors Neus Truyol and Kika Coll have accused the PP of "seriously endangering urban and cultural heritage" after removing the protection approved during the last legislative term for hundreds of buildings and maintaining "spaces of great historical value without technical direction or effective management."
According to Coll, this situation is not due to "a distraction or negligence" but rather to "a calculated strategy" to favor speculative interests and leave Palma "in the hands of destruction." According to MÁS, this trend contrasts with the aspiration to become the European Capital of Culture.
License moratorium
The eco-sovereignty movement proposes a moratorium on licenses for historic buildings, updating and expanding the protected catalog, creating a citizen surveillance and reporting brigade, and promoting heritage outreach and education programs to foster collective pride.
MÁS cited as examples of "neglect" the loss of protection for 330 ethnological elements on rural land and 250 urban buildings, and the demolition of a building on Calle del 31 de Diciembre, which was replaced by luxury homes. It also denounced the lack of safeguarding measures for works of art, such as a painting attributed to Van Dyck, and the deterioration of spaces like Bellver Castle, where "projects are stalled and archaeological excavations are at a standstill."
