PalmThe old Lluís Sitjar field will house a new sports complex with capacity for up to 2,500 spectators, ready to host different types of sports and cultural events. The overall project, which includes the sports facilities, two parking areas with capacity for 650 vehicles, a green area, and the rearrangement of the surrounding roads, will have a budget of approximately 44 million euros.

According to the most optimistic forecasts from the Palma City Council, the tender could be awarded before the end of 2026, while the works would begin between late 2027 and early 2028.

In a press conference, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, explained that, specifically, this Wednesday the Governing Board approved the start of the processing to convene the tender for architectural preliminary projects to remodel the surroundings of the old Lluís Sitjar.

Martínez defended that the new pavilion will serve as a complement to Son Moix, an infrastructure that currently hosts five elite teams that "have to juggle to coordinate".

Palma will celebrate the Patrona again in SeptemberBarcelona Square will become "an urban balcony"

The mayor has assured that the project will allow the Barcelona square to be converted into "an urban balcony" with views of a large green area made up of the Riera park –partially affected by the project–, the Canódromo park and the future urban forest of El Tirador.

In addition, the new facility will maintain elements linked to the historical memory of the old Real Mallorca stadium. In this regard, the main entrance of the old ground – cataloged and protected by Cort – will be preserved, although it could be moved if the works so require. The project will also incorporate a topographical footprint that will recall the layout of the historic stadium.

Palma will celebrate the Patron Saint again in September

On the other hand, the Governing Council has approved the start of the proceedings for the contracting of the festivities of the Mare de Déu de la Salut, the patron saint of the Balearic capital, which will once again offer a macro-concert, similar to last year's, scheduled for September 5.

Last September, Palma held a macro-concert for the first time as part of the Patron Saint's festivities, headlined by BLOND:ISH and WhoMadeWho, which was free and open to the public, according to Europa Press.

New residential project in Son Pardo

In addition, the Board has approved this Wednesday the bases and statutes of a Strategic Residential Project (PRE) in Son Pardo, with a forecast of building more than 250 homes, 154 of which will be public housing. This is the eighth PRE approved by the City Council after Son Puigdorfila, Son Güells, Son Ximelis, Son Cladera Nord, Cas Pastors, Son Toells and Es Pontet.

On the other hand, the Governing Board has annulled, by order of the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB), a classification made within the scope of the 2023 General Plan, as rustic land of a plot of 33,500 square meters through which the discarded Trambadia project was planned to pass. Martínez has described this plan, developed during the previous legislature, as "disastrous" and has assured that "the only thing it does is cause problems for citizens".
