PalmThe Historic Center Commission of the Palma City Council has rejected the proposal for the new Pesquero bar in Palma due to "deficiencies" in the project and has indicated that the design of the roof is a "visual distortion" for the city's historic center.

According to the deputy mayor and councilor for Urban Planning, Housing and Strategic Projects, Óscar Fidalgo, the commission has identified errors in the project and has assured that the members of the commission "have not been very in agreement with the proposed plan, its scope and the terms".

The councilor has pointed out that the proposal "fits little with the heritage values" of Palma and that the commission has prioritized "landscape" issues before rejecting the proposal.

In this regard, he has specified that the pergola-shaped roof that is planned to be installed in the new restaurant "is possibly not the most appropriate decision for this area of the city". Specifically, they argue that the design is a "visual distortion" of the historic center and other heritage elements of Palma.

Thus, Fidalgo has added that the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) that awarded the project will be responsible for deciding how to proceed with the award, although he has assured that their disposition "has always been respectful" of the City Council.

ARCA celebrates the decision: "It has to be a simple, humble bar that goes unnoticed"

Once it became public that the Palma City Council rejected the project, the Association for the Revitalization of Old Centers (ARCA) has celebrated the decision and assured that a notable fact is that the members of the Commission voted unanimously against it.

Thus, ARCA, which participated in this Tuesday's meeting, assured that the project was "very impactful, it sought to be too visible and had an architecturally pretentious cover." According to the entity, the design intended to compete with the Lonja and the Consolat.

In this regard, the association has argued that a bar like El Pesquero should be "simple, humble in appearance and should go unnoticed".

Finally, ARCA has urged the APB to change its criteria when granting public space and to choose a project that can be integrated into the maritime facade of Palma.
