PorreresPorreres won't be setting off fireworks. This year's Sant Roc will mark a turning point in the town's festivities. Fireworks will be replaced by drones. A light and sound show will illuminate the sky of Porreres on the night of August 16th, starting at midnight.

The mayor of Porreres, Xisca Mora, explains that the change is due to several factors. "On the one hand, there were complaints from people with pets, and that the fireworks and noise bothered and caused problems for these animals." "To this," Mora adds, "we must add that we have a new Councilor for Festivals who wanted to put his stamp on things, innovate, and make a change in this regard, adopting much more sustainable measures, while also allowing for a light and music show to conclude the festivities."

Regarding the tradition of the rockets, Mora explains that "it is a break from a very traditional act as fireworks have always been" but also thinks "that we should look to the future and make a sustainable commitment in this sense, which we think is very positive."

Finally, Mora explains that the main reason that has led to this change from rockets to drones is due to the weather. "With the drought and having the n'Hereveta park surrounded by agricultural, rural land, it already led to the fact that a few years ago we could not release the fireworks due to current regulations. And this aspect is resolved with the drones."

For his part, Pol Salleras, the new Councilor for Festivals, agrees with the mayor that "it was time to make a change. First of all, because of the uncertainty of recent years with the risk of fire and, on the other hand, because of everything that affects animal welfare." "Two years ago, the fireworks had to be canceled and the fire run postponed at the last minute due to the risk of fire, and last year we were left with uncertainty until the last minute due to the heat. So, to avoid these uncertainties, we've opted for a different kind of initiative."

Regarding the drone show, Salleras assures that they're putting on "another show" that he believes "will be fantastic." "In this sense, I want to say that Porreres has always been a pioneering town, bringing in different groups and putting on concerts with a prominent lineup, and I think this is in line with that and opens the way for a different kind of show, not just fireworks, but drones with synchronized sound, which I think will be amazing," says the satisfied new councilor.

Regarding the tradition and the town's reception of the new show, he explains that he believes "people in general will like it." "Now, I understand that this first year, people who are very traditionalist might not like this change very much, because it's true that we're having an event that's been going on for a long time. But I think that with time and after seeing the spectacle that will be put on, I think they'll change their minds."

Finally, the Councilor for Festivals asks the people of Porreres to "first see the show and then give us their opinion. It's a decision that in principle we will maintain over time. It was a decision of the governing team. After the festivities, we will talk about the result and how it went and we will analyze it."

The drone show will be over the Les Forques football field and people who want to see it are recommended to stand on the Les Forques ring road or on the Montuïri road to see it and hear the music.

In Inca, they have been holding this type of show for a few years now instead of traditional fireworks. Here you can seethe recent show they performed a few weeks ago for the San Abdón and Senén festivities.
