Balearic water reserves drop to 47% in May

72% of the territory remains in a pre-alert situation, while Ibiza exits the drought alert scenario

PalmaThe water reserves in the Balearic Islands stood at 47% during the month of May, three points below April's record (50%), according to data published by the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle.

By islands, Mallorca registers reserves of 47% (50% in April), Menorca of 42% (43%), and Ibiza of 51% (55%). Despite the monthly decrease, the Hydrographic Demarcation index stands at 0.481, above the values recorded a year ago (0.449) and two years ago (0.433).

Currently, 17.6% of the territory is in a normal situation; 72.2% in pre-alert, and 10.2% in alert. El Pla continues to be the only demand unit in an alert situation, while Ibiza has improved and moved to pre-alert.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), May was slightly dry in the Balearic Islands, with an average rainfall of 24.9 liters per square meter, below the usual 33.6 liters. Despite this, the accumulated rainfall of the last twelve months stands at 103% of the Archipelago's average.

Regarding temperature, May was very warm, with an average of 19.1 degrees, one degree above the usual values for this month.
