PalmThe Mallorca Territorial Defense Agency (ADTM) yesterday morning sealed off and closed down the allegedly illegal shooting range in Sona Mora de Algaida. The ADTM, an autonomous body of the Mallorcan Council, visited the shooting range and sealed off access to the shooting range and an adjacent building.

The forced closure of the facilities was carried out after the Palma Administrative Court rejected the application of the precautionary measures requested by the owners, who requested permission to continue operating while the administrative dispute they filed against the ADTM's ruling was resolved.

This file warned the developers that if they did not suspend the activity, the construction work could be sealed—which has been the case—and the removal of machinery and materials, installations, or uses could also be prohibited. In this case, it also points out that "any resulting expenses will be borne by the promoter, owner, and person responsible for the event."

The Court dismissed the property's claims because these precautionary closure measures do not cause any serious harm to the property. It also argues that in this case, the public interest and the protection of the territory prevail.

The construction work on the shooting range on the Sona Mora estate in Algaida was carried out in 2024 and was done without any permission from the local council. Upon learning of this, the urban planning services informed the Territorial Defense Agency, which opened a planning infringement case.

The resolution was taken because on plot 36 of polygon 4 of the municipality of Algaida, on the Son Amora estate—an erroneous name that appears in many documents—in the direction of Sencelles, "on land classified as protected rural land, rural land under the general forestry regime, rural land," a term allegedly illegal works are being carried out.

The case file specifies that "land uses are being carried out that allegedly constitute a planning infringement, consisting of earthworks." The earthworks to build the shooting range did not go unnoticed and raised complaints in the Algaida municipality. Permits and authorizations aside, most representatives of the Algaida City Council have expressed their rejection of the municipal model that an activity like the shooting range entails.

Furthermore, the activity has been underway since last year, and in addition to the construction work, bar and restaurant services are also being operated without a permit and are therefore supposedly illegal.
