PalmThe Establiments neighborhood council held an assembly this past Wednesday to continue organizing opposition to the recently passed Land Liberalization Law, promoted by the PP and Vox parties. Some eighty people, including neighborhood groups and associations, as well as the Palma Residents' Federation and the GOB (Government of the Basque Country), decided to form a platform to organize and unify their opposition to the land liberalization law.

Dozens of residents participated in the meeting this past Wednesday.

In this regard, during the meeting, attendees agreed that the law, supposedly passed to address the housing problems facing the Balearic Islands, in reality "will not provide solutions in this regard," they said. They decided to form a platform under the slogan "Mallorca for living, not for speculation," with the aim of organizing mobilizations and protests against the new law, which will allow construction on rural land. The platform is structured into several open committees.

Some eighty residents of Secar de la Real participated in a meeting this Thursday afternoon to discuss and share their discontent over the law promoted by the PP and Vox parties, which provides for large-scale housing developments in various neighborhoods of Palma.

The attendees agreed to attend Monday's protest outside Parliament.

The meeting was also attended by residents of nearby neighborhoods, such as Son Sardina and Establiments, which are also affected by the regulations expected to be approved by Parliament next week.

The Secar Neighborhood Association informed participants of the consequences and impact this policy would have on the neighborhood, as it would involve the consumption of more than 25 hectares and a 121% increase in population.

"This would double the pressure on the neighborhood without any improvement in transportation, healthcare, education, parking, sports and cultural services, or improved water," they lamented. In this regard, they noted that the Secar de la Real neighborhood already suffered the impact of several oversized urban development projects during the 2000s, such as the construction of the Son Espases hospital, and that they are now concerned about the possibility of suffering another project of similar magnitude that would impair the quality of life and identity.
