PalmaThe Second Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will hold next Wednesday the preliminary hearing of the trial against a family doctor and a caregiver, a romantic couple, accused of defrauding more than 7,000 euros from IB-Salut by manipulating the computer schedules of a health center in Mallorca.

The Prosecutor's Office requests for each of the accused a sentence of five and a half years in prison as alleged perpetrators of a crime of fraud and another of document forgery. In addition, it requests that they jointly return the 7,196 euros irregularly received, that they pay a fine of 7,200 euros each, and that they be disqualified for six years from performing health functions.

According to the indictment of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the events occurred between January and October 2023, when both worked as interim staff in a health center in Mallorca. The woman worked as a family doctor and the man as a caregiver.

The Prosecutor's Office maintains that, with the aim of obtaining illicit economic benefit, both entered false data into the IB-Salut computer system so that it would appear that the doctor had attended a number of patients greater than the real one, which allowed her to collect various salary supplements.

According to the accusation, the caregiver, who was responsible for managing the appointments of the physicians, registered patients as visited who, in reality, had not shown up for the consultation, thus fictitiously inflating the doctor's healthcare activity.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. at the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands.
