MÁS por Mallorca has lamented the impact of the infrastructure on the agricultural estate.

PalmThis Friday, MÁS por Sóller denounced the destruction of an orange grove in Biniaraix to build a car park. The group lamented that the City Council, with the approval of the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council), destroyed a fruit tree orchard and placed concrete blocks on the dry stone margins in an area declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC).
"This is a new attack on our territory that only responds to a policy serving runaway tourism and the interests of rental cars, while the resident population remains without real solutions to their mobility needs," said Laura Celià, spokesperson for MÉS por Sóller, during a visit to the affected area.
The visit was also attended by members of the island's MÉS councilors' group on the Consell de Mallorca. According to the group, the project promoted by the PP government in Can Gorgai not only represents an "ecological and heritage attack, but also an improper use of public resources." "We're talking about converting fertile gardens into parking lots for rental cars, using recycled concrete blocks from other municipal projects. This is not only disrespectful to the landscape and history of our town, but also a financial and urban planning folly," Celià remarked.
The spokesperson also denounced the lack of oversight by the Island Directorate of the Tramuntana Mountains and the silence of its head, Antoni Solivellas: "We don't understand how such an outrage could have been allowed in such a sensitive area." "It is unacceptable that graffiti-covered concrete blocks be placed on dry-stone margins, when any specific renovation in this area is subject to strict regulation," she stated.
However, MÁS por Sóller has demanded the immediate halt of the construction, the removal of the concrete blocks, and the initiation of an environmental restoration process for the area. The group also calls for a comprehensive rethinking of mobility in the municipality, with measures that prioritize the lives of residents rather than overcrowding.
