This way it will be possible to enter the Platja de Palma on the day of the eclipse

PalmaThe Palma City Council has enabled an accreditation system for access to Playa de Palma on the day of the eclipse (August 12), for vehicles of residents and workers and clients of establishments in the area. From 12 noon, the roundabouts and accesses to Playa de Palma will be closed to the general public: only residents with a parking space, workers, public transport, taxis, Uber, and buses responsible for transferring clients from the hotel to the airport will be able to access.

Accreditation can be requested in a "remote and simple" way, according to Llorenç Bauzá, councilor for Citizen Security, in three steps. First, establishments will have to register and include their data. After confirming the veracity of the form, workers and clients can be registered. In the case of client registration, it only applies if the establishment has private parking.

Thus, a credential with a QR code will be sent, which Cort recommends printing to keep visible in the vehicle. Bauzá also explained that it can be kept on a mobile phone for the various entry controls to the premises. The accreditations will allow a maximum of two accesses per vehicle.

The councilor recalled that users traveling by public transport will not have to be accredited, and asked for prudence, as an influx of 70,000 people is expected.

Regarding suppliers - who will also have to be accredited - access will be limited until 11:00 a.m. and, from then on, they will not be able to enter Playa de Palma to make deliveries. Therefore, Cort recommended advancing deliveries on previous days and resolving the supply of establishments during the previous day.

Conduct recommendations

The City Council has recalled that the proper functioning of the device and the safety of citizens depend on the action of the Administration and responsible behavior from the public. For this reason, it has prepared a code of conduct with individual duties, which includes keeping the environment clean, waste collection, respect for bathing signage, the prohibition of glass containers, and the use of approved goggles or filters to observe the eclipse.

Bonfires, barbecues, and the use of pyrotechnic material will also not be permitted, in addition to alcohol consumption and marquees and tents (but parasols will be allowed). Finally, full nudity and the use of loudspeakers or sound equipment are prohibited.

On the other hand, the City Council recommends that children under six years of age do not look at the eclipse, wear light-colored and light clothing, maintain good hydration, use sunscreen, and avoid direct sun exposure between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Finally, Bauzá has called for individual responsibility to ensure the safety and proper functioning of the device: “We want it to be a historic day, but for the beauty of the phenomenon and not for other incidents [referring to lack of civility]”.
