Galmés activates an 84 million plan against the impact of the war, while the opposition questions the use of remainders
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has announced the Mallorca Protects Plan to address the economic and social impact of the war conflict in the Middle East
PalmThe president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has announced the Plan Mallorca protects, endowed with 84 million euros, to face the economic and social impact of the war conflict in the Middle East, because "the island institution acts with responsibility, diligence and speed to protect the families, businesses and productive sector of Mallorca".
For her part, the spokesperson for the PSIB, Catalina Cladera, has criticized the dates of the debate, eight months after the previous one, and has insinuated that it could be because Galmés, "was in a hurry" to announce the measures to alleviate the effects of the war in Iran and the Middle East. In addition, Cladera has criticized that the surpluses available to the Consell are used to finance these anti-crisis measures.
On the other hand, the socialist has "missed" a condemnation by Galmés of a war, which she has described as "illegal" and "avoidable" with consequences for the civilian population.
For its part, MÉS per Mallorca wanted to remind President Llorenç Galmés that, despite the investment announcements, the reality of Mallorca remains just as complex without the island government's action having changed course. In this way, the spokesperson for the eco-sovereignist party, Cataina Inés Perelló, has accused Galmés of practicing "political fraud" and of leading a government based on "headlines, promises, and propaganda but without real results"., In the opinion of MÉS per Mallorca, the island will suffer "permanent collapse" if limits are not imposed. Catalina Inés Perelló has reproached the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, that his government "does not want to bother anyone".
Perelló has also criticized the import of waste from Ibiza for the harm it represents to the Mallorcans, and has also referred to the other major announcement from more than a year ago by the president of the Consell, the solution to traffic jams on the roads by limiting vehicle entry. The eco-sovereignist spokesperson has ironically commented on the fact "that no more studies are needed, it is enough to go out on the street" to verify the collapse that Galmés once announced he was combating and that to this day has not even approved the measure of limiting car entry.
The spokesperson for the eco-sovereignist party, Catalina Inés Perelló, addressed the island leader with these words, in the first turn of intervention in the general policy debate of 2026.
For its part, Galmés has wanted to use the investment plan as the main political argument of this debate on the Consell's policy, and has highlighted the nine million euros aimed at the most vulnerable families so that they can face basic expenses in the face of rising prices. Also the two million for families with affiliated children under 16 years of age to compensate for sports expenses and one million euros for clubs and federations. Likewise, one million euros will be allocated to agricultural cooperatives to defend Mallorca's agricultural sector and two million euros in local product consumption vouchers. The cultural and craft sector will also have 300,000 euros in aid.
Furthermore, the president of the Consell de Mallorca has pointed out that up to 75% or 100% of advance subsidy payments will be anticipated to streamline administrative management. He has also announced that public works contract awards will be reviewed to update prices and extend deadlines.
Llorenç Galmés has assured that the island institution maintains its commitment to public investment with 51.5 million euros to modernize and improve the sustainability of road infrastructure, and two million euros to renovate municipal sports facilities.
This package of measures, most of them immediate and complementary to those of the regional government and the Spanish government, will be approved at the next plenary session on April 9.
