The CPI falls 2.2% in February in the Balearic Islands
Restaurants and accommodations lead the price increases, which in the Islands grow above the state average
PalmThe Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell to 2.2% in the Balearic Islands in February in year-on-year terms, two tenths below the year-on-year rate of the previous month, according to definitive data published this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The February figure is the lowest recorded in the Balearic Islands since October 2024. In monthly terms, inflation in the Balearic Islands increased by 0.4%, while prices have fallen by 0.1% so far this year.
The prices that rose the most in the Balearic Islands compared to the same month of the previous year were in restaurants and accommodation services, 6.2% more than in February 2025 (+0.4 points compared to the year-on-year rate recorded in the previous month); alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 4.9% more (-0.4 points); insurance and financial services, 3.8% more (-1.1 points) and food and non-alcoholic beverages, 3.5% more (+1 points).
On the other hand, the prices that fell the most in year-on-year terms were in information and communications, -0.1% (-0.3 points compared to the rate of the previous month), the only category in which they were reduced. At the national level, the CPI increased by 0.4% in February compared to the previous month and maintained its year-on-year rate, at 2.3%.
At the end of February, the highest CPI rates were presented by Madrid (2.9%), the Valencian Community (2.6%) and Extremadura (2.5%). On the other hand, La Rioja (2%), Catalonia (2%) and Castilla - La Mancha (2%) were situated. Galicia (+0.3%), Extremadura (+0.2%) and Murcia (+0.2%) were the communities where prices grew the most in year-on-year terms, while the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and Madrid saw the least growth, with decreases of 0.2%, 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.
