Renewable energy capacity will grow by 10% in the Balearic Islands by 2025 and will already represent almost a quarter of the total.
According to information from Red Eléctrica, the Balearic Islands already have 205 MW of installed self-consumption capacity, 95.2% of which is photovoltaic.
PalmThe Balearic Islands have increased their installed renewable energy capacity by 10.1% in 2025, rising from a total of 541 MW to 596 MW. This increase allows for a power map of the Islands where almost a quarter (24.4%) comes from renewable sources, the vast majority of which (91.8%) is renewable.
These are some of the figures released following the presentation of theSpanish electricity system report 2025 and Renewables in the Spanish electricity system 2025Two documents presented in Madrid this Wednesday by Red Eléctrica, the company responsible for the transmission and operation of the system. According to information from Red Eléctrica, the Balearic Islands already have 205 MW of installed self-consumption capacity, 95.2% of which is photovoltaic. In 2025, renewable generation (648.8 GWh) accounted for 13.6% of the total, a figure that rises to 17.6% once the contribution from self-consumption installations is included, which are mostly photovoltaic solar (89.8%). Overall, the generation mix in the Balearic Islands in 2025 was led by combined cycle gas turbines, with a 62.3% share of the total, followed by photovoltaic solar, with 14.5%. The remaining 24.3% is comprised of gas turbines (8.3%), diesel engines (6.3%), renewable and non-renewable waste (2.7% each), coal (1.9%), cogeneration (0.8%), and other renewable sources (0.4%). The submarine power link between Mallorca and the mainland covered 24.3% of the islands' demand. Furthermore, the Balearic Islands recorded an electricity demand of 6,313 GWh in 2025, a 4.1% increase compared to the previous year. Taking into account weather conditions and working days, demand increased by 2.2%. Additionally, electricity consumption in the archipelago increased by 4.6% in 2025 when self-consumption figures are included.
August 18th was the day in 2025 with the highest electricity demand recorded in the Balearic system, reaching 26,590 MWh.
In terms of supply quality, the Balearic electricity system achieved a transmission network availability index of 98.17%, a figure that demonstrates the high rate of time the network was operational and providing proper service in the archipelago.
