Tourism jobs in the Balearic Islands fell by 10.7% in the second quarter.

PalmThe number of employees in the Balearic Islands' tourism sector reached 181,769 in the second quarter of the year, a 10.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. According to data published this Friday by Turespaña, of the total number of employees in tourism activities in the second quarter of 2024, 156,922 were self-employed, representing a 44.6% year-on-year increase.
The Balearic Islands are the autonomous community with the largest decrease in the second quarter of this year, at 10.7%, compared to Murcia (-8.5%), Castilla-La Mancha (-6.6%), Extremadura (-6%), Aragón (-5.2%), and Galicia (-4.6%).
On the other hand, the number of employees increased in 11 autonomous communities. Among the main regions, the number of employed people grew in Madrid, by 8.3%; in Andalusia, by 6.5%; in Catalonia, by 2.4%; and in the Canary Islands, by 1.4%, while it fell in Valencia, by 1.3%, and in the Balearic Islands, by 10.7%.

In Spain, tourism employment surpassed three million for the first time outside of what is traditionally considered high season, after growing 2% in the second quarter of the year compared to 2024.
From April to June, the sector registered 3,024,347 employed workers, according to data published Friday by Turespa. In this second quarter of 2025, tourism-related activities registered 58,563 more employees than in the same quarter of the previous year.
Employees in the tourism sector during this period constituted 13.6% of total employment in the Spanish economy.
