PalmaThe Ulls de Dona cycle, organized by the Estudi General Lul·lià and supported by the Consell de Mallorca, kicks off this week with a series of screenings focused on women and the countryside, and will continue with other themes related to affectivity, the kiss as a protagonist, and special attention to the perspective of adolescents. In its third edition, it focuses on cinema from a feminine perspective in terms of encounter and alliance to generate critical thinking, making a proposal aimed at all audiences and also including specific activities for adolescents.

Women and the countryside

This Tuesday, October 20th, and the 22nd, women from the rural world are the protagonists. Coinciding with the International Day of Rural Women, and within the framework of the 9th edition of the National Rural Film and Women's Cinema Cycle, Ulls de Dona is organizing a screening, followed by a talk, which will take place starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Sala Polivalent del Molinar, in Montuïri. The feature-length fiction film Bodegón con Fantasmas by Enrique Buleo (Spain, 2025) will be screened, and subsequently, the talk 'Female associationism: creating social and cultural fabric in the Part Forana' will take place.

Continuing with the theme of women in the rural world, “Ulls de Dona” pays a multidisciplinary tribute to the women of the Mallorcan countryside. The olive pickers will be the protagonists in an event that combines audiovisual experience, music, and literature, which will take place on Thursday, October 22nd, at the Estudi General Lul·lià, starting at 6:00 p.m. The short film Blava Terra by Marine Auclair and the documentary Mirall de Terra by Cristina Monge (2022) will be screened.

Afterwards, there will be a talk about the figure of the pickers with musicologist and researcher Francesc Vicens Vidal and researcher Bàrbara Suau. The music will be provided by singer Júlia Colom, with the tunes of the pickers.

The kiss and adolescence

The session dedicated to adolescence is scheduled for October 26th, at the Estudi General Lul·lià starting at 5:00 PM. On the discussion table: the kiss. It is proposed to explore the kiss as a sensory and invisible boundary, with a meaning in the relationship between people and often a step that marks a before and after in adolescents.

After two screenings of What a Drag! by Loïc Espuche (France, 2024) and , an Oscar-winning short film by Natalie Musteata and Alexandre Singh- the conversation will open among the teenagers, accompanied by pedagogue Victòria Quesada and therapist Roberto Fernández García.

In parallel, and with the support of the Balearic Women's Institute (Ib-Dona), a pedagogical activity will be carried out with high school students at their center, in which, from an artistic perspective—through photography—and with the theme of the kiss, education on equality will be worked on.

This pedagogical and artistic project, promoted by the artist and creator Martha Zein with the involvement of teachers and academics, will culminate in the photography exhibition , which can be seen starting December 12th at the Estudi General Lul·lià.

One of the main novelties this year will be a humorous monologue that will also be related to the kiss. On the occasion of November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the communicator, comedian, and feminist activist Irantzu Varela will exclusively present a comedy monologue created specifically for Ulls de Dona. It will be on December 2nd at the Estudi General Lul·lià.

Classic cinema and book club

This year, it is Agatha Christie's turn. A masterpiece of film noir based on her work has been chosen: directed by Billy Wilder. It will be on November 6th at the Estudi General Lul·lià starting at 6:00 PM. First, the feature film will be screened, and afterwards, the book club will take place regarding the work of the same title by Agatha Christie, moderated by the university professor of English literature Eduard Moyà and the jurist Catalina Moragues.
