Art Jove 2026 premieres a best DJ award to get closer to new youth trends
The Government's competition expands the program to ten categories and reinforces the boost to young creators with prizes and professional opportunities
PalmThe Government presented this Wednesday a new call for the Art Jove 2026 competition, which this year comes with a notable novelty: the incorporation of an award for best DJ. With this new category, the program expands its scope to ten disciplines and seeks to connect with current musical trends among the young population of the Balearic Islands.
The presentation took place in the Margalida Comas i Camps building of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), with the participation of the Minister of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care, Sandra Fernández, and the director of the Balearic Youth Institute (IBJove), Tomàs Amer. The event also featured the presence of winners from the previous edition in categories such as comic, fashion, and dance.
Specifically, Bernat Bauzà, awarded in comic in 2024 with ‘Café calor’; Aina Bennasar, winner in fashion design with the collection ‘Sal que cura’; and Alejandro Fuster, winner in contemporary dance, participated. The three creators shared their experience in a colloquium with institutional representatives, where they highlighted the competition's role in boosting their professional careers. During the event, Bauzà showed copies of his comic, Bennasar exhibited pieces from her collection, and Fuster performed a fragment of the winning choreography.
The new DJ category, endowed with 4,000 euros, includes both monetary prizes and the hiring of the winner for two performances or sets. The competition admits diverse styles such as house, afro house, afrobeat, or electronic, always with original creations or remixes, and will be developed with semifinal and final rounds.
The registration period is now open until May 31 for most categories —except for Chef Jove, which will extend until October 18— and is aimed at young people between 16 and 35 years old. Applications can be submitted through the competition's website.
In addition to the new award, Art Jove maintains consolidated categories such as Visual Arts, Comic, Short Films, Short Story, Contemporary Dance, Music for Young Performers, Fashion Design, Product Design, and Cuisine. The monetary awards range from 4,000 to 13,000 euros and include, in many cases, professionalization opportunities such as performances, exhibitions, or the production of new works.
The Art Jove program aims to foster creation among young people in the Balearic Islands, facilitate their professionalization, and support their first steps within the cultural sector. As highlighted by the Conselleria, the incorporation of new modalities responds to the evolution of youth interests and cultural practices, as exemplified this year by the debut of the DJ category.
