PalmaThe Department of Education and Universities has urged nine educational centers in the center of Palma to suspend teaching activity starting at 6 p.m. this Friday due to the protest called by the Blocus collective at the Plaça d’Espanya in Palma. The request has been forwarded to the management teams so that, in the exercise of their autonomy, they may decide whether to suspend classes. One of these centers is the IES Joan Alcover which, as it closes at 3 p.m., will not be in operation at the time of the protest.
In the statement sent to the centers, the Ministry explains that, given the gathering and "due to the circumstances surrounding this call, as well as the possible incidents that could arise from it", it considers it "a priority to ensure the safety of students, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and all people who carry out their professional activity" in educational centers.
The department also points out that the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands "has not forwarded to the Ministry of Education and Universities any recommendation or indication regarding the measures to be adopted". For this reason, and despite reiterating that the safety of the educational community is guaranteed, it urges management teams to decide, "in the exercise of school autonomy, the suspension of teaching activity today, October 30, 2026, starting at 6 p.m.".
