PalmaThe Vice President and spokesperson for the Government, Antoni Costa, expressed this Friday the Government's "categorical condemnation" of the call for protests this Friday in Palma "with the apparent purpose of causing violent disturbances" and "already called by appealing to violence." He said this in reference to the demonstration planned for this Friday and apparently linked to Blocus, the group that caused disturbances in Barcelona and the Basque Country.

In the press conference following the Government Council, he recalled that the Executive has always respected "peaceful" demonstrations, but "this one, in particular, is anything but peaceful". It concerns a protest scheduled for this Friday at Plaça d'Espanya by the Gen Z group, with the slogan 'For a fairer future'. As the vice president stated, the call, made anonymously via social media, has "the apparent purpose of causing violent disturbances".

For this reason, he has demanded "more personnel" from the Spanish Government Delegation: "That police intelligence be strengthened and effective coordination with local police be guaranteed". "We cannot accept that they do not adopt the necessary preventive measures to contain, avoid, and reassure the population", he insisted.

Just this Thursday, the Spanish government delegate called for calm from the citizenry in statements to the media, and insisted that there is "work" being done, but without providing details. The business associations Afedeco, Pimeco, and Pimem have also demanded preventive measures from both the Delegation and the Palma City Council to protect businesses from potential vandalism. As reported by EFE, city council officials have said that the Local Police are coordinated with the rest of the security forces and bodies to handle any incident.

In the call, Blocus Mallorca stated that they had "no intention of harming the people camping at Plaça d'Espanya". In the event that "there is an attack" on "one" of the protesters, they will carry out "the massive destruction of the camping tents", as reported by the agency. Indeed, the sit-in for the right to housing in Palma is installed in the same Plaça d'Espanya. There are more than 35 tents.
