Education will invest more than 16 million to air-condition educational centers
The IBISEC will tender projects and begin works in Mallorca, Menorca, and Eivissa with actions that include solar panels and window frame renovation
PalmThe Ministry of Education continues to deploy the air conditioning plan for educational centers in the Balearic Islands, with an investment totaling nearly 16.3 million euros. The Balearic Institute of Educational Infrastructure and Services (IBISEC) has put out to tender the drafting of the projects, which can now be consulted on the public procurement platform, for an amount of 172,669 euros. The objective of the plan is to improve the thermal comfort of the buildings and guarantee more comfortable and sustainable spaces. The actions include improvements in insulation, renovation of carpentry, air conditioning systems, boilers, and the installation of solar panels.
In Mallorca, the centers that will enter this phase are IES Josep Maria Llompart, IES Nou Llevant, the Son Ferriol Special Education Center, IES Can Peu Blanc, CEIP Molí den Xema, Gabriel Coams i Ribas, and IES Puig de sa Font. The estimated cost of the works on the island is 12.6 million euros.
In Menorca, the plan will affect IES Pasqual Calbó and CEIP Mestre Duran, with an estimated investment of 1.7 million euros. Meanwhile, in Ibiza, IES Santa Maria and CEIP Can Coix will be intervened, while in Formentera, IES Marc Ferrer will be intervened. All of this, at an approximate cost of 2 million euros.
Some centers are excluded from this tender because they already have works underway or planned, such as IES Antoni Maura, IES Son Pacs, CEIP Badie, and CEIP Mestre Guillem Galmés. In Menorca, CEIP Pere Casasnoves (Ciutadella) and the Magdalena Humbert nursery school in Maó remain pending. In Ibiza and Formentera, the expansion of IES Sant Agustí is planned, which will include air conditioning systems.

In parallel, the Ministry of Education has commissioned the UIB to carry out an energy and economic study of 20 educational centers, with a budget of 96,412 euros. The twenty centers included in this commission are distributed among Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera. Specifically, in Ibiza and Formentera, actions will be taken at the CEIP Guillem de Montgrí, CEIP Labritja, CEIP Es Vedrà, CEIP S’Olivera, CEIP Cervantes, CEIP Can Misses, IES Blanca Dona, IES Santa Maria, IES Isidor Macabich, and CEIP Mestre Lluís Andreu. In Menorca, the study will be carried out at IES Maria Àngels Cardona, IES Biel Martí, CEIP Àngel Ruiz i Pablo, CEIP Joan Benejam, CEIP Inspector Doctor Comas Camps, and CEIP Mare de Déu de Gràcia. Finally, in Mallorca, the project includes IES Sineu, CEIP Aina Moll i Marquès, CEIP Establiments, and CEIP Júniper Serra.
Over the next few months, the Ministry plans to allocate 4.1 million euros to new works, such as the renovation of roofs, facades, and carpentry at CEIP s’Alzinar, with a budget of 2.2 million euros; the waterproofing of the roof at IES Ramon Llull, planned for 105,000 euros; and the renovation of the roof at CEPA Llevant in Manacor, at a cost of 440,000 euros.
Apart from the actions programmed within the tender for works for the Air Conditioning Plan, the Ministry of Education and Universities, through IBISEC, is also promoting various actions to improve air conditioning in educational centers. In the last three years, almost 12 million euros have been invested, allocated to the renovation of boilers and air conditioning equipment, the replacement of lighting, and the substitution of carpentry, among other improvements.
