The list of Education: teaching specialties of difficult coverage that will collect a supplement

PalmaThe Department of Education will bring this week to the Sectoral Table the proposal for teaching positions of difficult coverage for the 2026-2027 academic year. The draft, to which ARA Balears has had access, includes 191 combinations of specialty, workload, and island, six more than last year, with a particularly high incidence in Ibiza (75 positions) and Menorca (43). Formentera concentrates 25 positions considered of very difficult coverage. These positions are linked to the economic supplements agreed by Education: 200 euros per month in Menorca, 300 in Ibiza, and 400 in Formentera.

The draft establishes which specialties and workloads will be considered of difficult coverage next year. The list also includes 48 combinations corresponding to Mallorca, although the document differentiates between the declaration of specialties of difficult coverage and the consideration of a position as a place of difficult or very difficult coverage. The document determines that any position with a primary center in an educational center in Menorca or Ibiza will be declared of difficult coverage. In the case of Formentera, all positions with a primary center on the island will be considered of very difficult coverage.

The proposal also foresees that certain positions in Menorca and Ibiza will be very difficult to fill. This is the case for positions occupied by interim civil servants who teach directly and who correspond to a specialty that is difficult to fill or that have been offered for 14 calendar days in the substitution award processes without having been filled.

In detail

In Ibiza, the island with the most specialties included in the list, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Geography and History, English, German, Physical Education, Educational Guidance and Technology appear. Specialties in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Therapeutic Pedagogy and Music are also incorporated, in addition to numerous profiles in Vocational Training and artistic education. In Menorca, the list includes 43 combinations of specialty and working hours. Among the specialties are Philosophy, Mathematics, English, Catalan, Educational Guidance, Technology and Computer Science. Vocational Training profiles are also included, such as Marine Navigation and Installations, Organization and Processes of Vehicle Maintenance, Electrotechnical Installations and Machining and Machine Maintenance, as well as artistic specialties such as Piano, Guitar, Trumpet and Cello.

Formentera has 25 combinations and is the only island where all positions are directly considered very difficult to fill. The list includes, among others, Philosophy, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Biology and Geology, English, Catalan, Educational Guidance, Informatics, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Therapeutic Pedagogy. Mallorca, for its part, adds 48 combinations to the list of difficult-to-fill specialties. These include Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, English, Catalan, Music, Physical Education, Educational Guidance, Technology and Informatics, along with specialties in Vocational Training and artistic education.

The classification stems from the agreement of the Sectoral Education Board of August 2024, which established the basis for the complement for difficult-to-fill positions. This agreement provides for the determination of difficult and very difficult-to-fill positions in Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera each academic year based on factors such as geographical location and teaching specialty. Amounts to be applied this year: teachers in Menorca will receive 200 euros per month, double the 100 euros of the current academic year; those in Ibiza will receive 300 euros, 100 euros more than this year, and those occupying very difficult-to-fill positions in Formentera will maintain 400 euros per month.
