Esquerra per Calvià is born, a unitary candidacy open to citizenship for 2027
The four formations of the Calvian left unite in a coalition that wants to shun personalisms
PalmaDecide Calvià, Esquerra Unida de Calvià, Moviment Sumar Illes Balears and MÉS per Calvià presented this Saturday the coalition Esquerra per Calvià, a unitary candidacy with which the four formations plan to run in the municipal elections of May 2027.
The event took place at the Molí de Santa Ponça in an atmosphere that the promoters wanted to place far from personalisms and focused on the collective construction of a political project open to all Calvià citizens.
Alfonso Rodríguez, from Esquerra Unida de Calvià, defended that this is an initiative "arising from collective debate and reflection of people from different social, cultural, neighborhood, and political spheres" to respond to the municipality's "social, economic, territorial, and democratic challenges".
In the same vein, Francisco Javier Porto, from Moviment Sumar Illes Balears, remarked that the new coalition "assumes the need for broad and generous agreements" and is born with the will to "shun protagonisms" to become a space "open to Calvià society".
The proposal is structured around four major transversal axes, as explained by Rafel Sedano, from MÉS per Calvià: civic, social, cultural rights, and territory. Among the priorities are citizen participation, access to decent housing, strengthening of social policies, promotion of culture, and protection of the municipality's heritage and natural spaces.
Regarding the configuration of the electoral list, Isabel Manresa, from Decide Calvià, announced that the candidates will be chosen through primaries at the end of summer. The intention is for the candidacy to incorporate independents in prominent positions. "The future of Calvià must be built by everyone," she concluded.
Looking ahead to autumn, the coalition plans a public presentation event where the members of the list and the main programmatic lines with which Esquerra per Calvià aims to reach the 2027 elections will be announced.
