PetraThe Petra City Council will impose a financial penalty on two councilors from the El Pi governing team who, on Monday, followed part of an extraordinary plenary session held remotely while driving their vehicles. This was confirmed by the mayor of Petra, Salvador Femenias, who announced that "the local police will open a report and they will receive the corresponding sanction because it was poorly conducted and they should receive the corresponding fine." Femenias warned that, in addition to the fine, "we will reprimand them and, of course, tell them not to do it again, but perhaps the best solution would be to stop holding extraordinary plenary sessions remotely and that's it."

The events were highlighted by the only opposition party, MÁS for Petra, with two councilors in the Chamber compared to nine from El Pi. The eco-sovereignty party warned in a statement of "the lack of seriousness with which such an important issue has been treated," referring to the economic and financial plan being submitted to the plenary session. They consider it "a lack of respect for the plenary session and the citizens of Petra" that "some councilors from the governing team participated while driving."

In the video footage broadcast by Petra Television SerramamerraTV, councilors Víctor López and Rafel Font can be seen participating for a good part of the plenary session while driving their vehicles. Not only that, but they raise their hands to vote, while López is driving with headphones on.

Repeat offender

Although the mayor has noted that "it's the first time it's happened and it won't happen again," this is not the first time a councilor from the governing team has participated in the virtual plenary session while driving. López already participated in August 2024. This was published by Tot Pla in its Mansiula section.

In this regard, warned by Tot Pla about this background, Femenias has pointed out that he didn't realize it because from the municipal offices where the plenary session is being followed, "I can't see where each councilor is at all times. I suppose each one follows from where they can because here they can and they have their responsibilities—by driving."
