PalmaThe Sumar Més deputy in Congress, Vicenç Vidal, will not repeat as head of the list for the Ara Més-Front Ampli coalition. Pressured by a large part of the permanent executive of MÉS per Mallorca and Més per Menorca, he has finally withdrawn from the competition and left the way clear for Carme Gomila. The native of Manacor will be the visible face of the eco-sovereignists in the upcoming general elections on November 29, once the federation formally ratifies it.
As learned by ARA Balears, the deputy has submitted his resignation to the executive of MÉS per Mallorca after learning that the leadership of Més per Menorca has set as a condition that the number one for Congress be a new face. As explained by ARA Balears, the ecosovereignist's only option was for the head of the list to be decided in an assembly of the MÉS per Mallorca membership, in which sources close to Vidal believe he could have numerically imposed himself over Gomila.
However, the former councilor and leader of Esquerra in the Islands has the support of a good part of the party apparatus, the Menorquinists, and Ara Eivissa. For this reason, according to close sources, Vidal has decided to step aside, with the aim of not harming the relationship between the formations that make up Ara Més. Thus, he communicated via an audio message to the party leadership that he was withdrawing from the race, and demanded that the person sent to Madrid be "cared for." During the negotiations with Sumar and Esquerra Unida, Vidal was key in finding consensus among the parties that would allow the signing of a coalition pact for the general elections, as reported by sources familiar with the talks.
