PalmaA cold air mass will cause a drop in temperature this Tuesday and an episode of heavy and persistent showers in the Balearic Islands. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warns that the islands could experience a meteorologically adverse day, with intense precipitation that will also affect the Catalan coast. The situation will be conditioned by an anticyclone located over the British Isles that will favor the entry of easterly winds and will bring humid air to the eastern third of the Peninsula and the Archipelago.
The Aemet spokesperson, Rubén del Campo, has warned that this Tuesday "could be an adverse day in areas of the Catalan coast and the Balearic Islands due to very heavy and persistent showers in areas that have already suffered torrential rains this autumn". According to the state agency's forecasts, an unstable environment is expected on the coasts of the eastern and southeastern peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, with cloudy skies and precipitation that may be heavy or persistent and accompanied by storms. The showers could also spread to other areas of the eastern third of the Peninsula.
General drop in temperatures
The other highlight of the day will be the drop in temperatures. Aemet forecasts a widespread decrease in maximums on the Peninsula, especially notable in the northern half, in addition to a decrease in minimums in that same area. Furthermore, snowfall is expected in the Pyrenees and the Iberian System, with a snow level situated above 1,500 meters. Frost is also expected in the main mountain areas of the northern peninsular half and in nearby elevated areas.
