PalmaThe bishop of Mallorca, Sebastià Taltavull, has reiterated that the Diocese maintains its availability to house people evicted from the old Palma prison, but has explained that they are still waiting for the City Council to give them a response.

This is what Taltavull stated this Thursday at a meeting with the media, within the framework of the World Social Communication Days.

Regarding the eviction of the old prison, he recalled that the Bishopric made spaces available to institutions to offer a residential option to these people, thanks to Caritas and the La Sapiència Foundation.

However, he lamented that the City Council "has not responded". "They know our proposal and we would like to receive a response," he said, while also sending a message to the people residing in the old prison so that they "let themselves be helped".

It should be recalled that the Palma City Council reported just over a week ago that of the 208 people registered in the last census, only 101 currently remain living in this building. Although there are more than a hundred residents in this space, the City Council of the Balearic capital not only refuses to offer them a way out, but also ignores possible aid from other entities.

In fact, in March, Cort assured that it had no housing alternatives for the residents of the old prison, a fact that the account of the Diocese of Mallorca has completely dismantled.
