Ibizan herbs Marí Mayans, the best spirit in the State
The award recognizes a beverage that distills the aroma and spirit of the Mediterranean.
PalmThe Hierbas Ibicencas family of Marino Mayans has been recognized with the award for Best Spirit with Geographical Indication 2025 at the 37th edition of the Spanish Food Awards, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The presentation ceremony, presided over by Minister Luis Planas, took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
Bartomeu Marí Mayans, one of the managers of the historic Ibizan company, was responsible for collecting the award from Ana Rodríguez, Secretary General of Agricultural Resources and Food Safety at the Ministry.
During the ceremony, Planas emphasized that the men and women of the agri-food sector "represent the best of our society: effort, innovation, and sustainability." The minister emphasized that these awards recognize "the agri-food excellence of our producers" and thanked the winners for their work as "ambassadors of Spanish Food," capable of combining tradition and modernity, sustainability and talent.
A prize for Mediterranean taste
The jury highlighted the "elegance, balance, and extremely high quality" of Hierbas Ibicencas Familia Marí Mayans, as well as their ability to reflect "the aromas and Mediterranean essence of the Balearic Islands," evoking the Ibizan character and lifestyle. They also recognized the trajectory of the family business, founded in 1880, which has managed to keep an ancient tradition alive by combining artisanal methods with sustainable practices and a clear commitment to the circular economy.
As the main producer of Hierbas Ibicencas with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), Marí Mayans has maintained a strong commitment to local producers, thus contributing to the development of the island's rural fabric.
International projection
The jury also highlighted the brand's international presence in key markets, establishing the flavor of Ibiza as a global benchmark in the world of spirits with a regional identity.
