In the summer of 2025, the third warmest since 1961 in the Balearic Islands
The average temperature was 25.9 degrees, with an anomaly of 1.9 degrees.

PalmThe summer of 2025 will be remembered in the Balearic Islands as one of the harshest in recent decades. According to the latest Aemet report, it was the third warmest since 1961, surpassed only by the summers of 2003 and 2022. This was explained by the delegate for the Islands, María José Guerrero. The average temperature was 25.9°C, with an anomaly of 1.9°C compared to normal. These figures confirm the forecasts that the agency made at the beginning of the season, when he predicted an increase in tropical nights and prolonged episodes of temperatures above the historical average.
Mallorca has experienced two heat waves, in late June and mid-August, with a peak of 41.5°C recorded at the Palma resorts – Universidad and Calvià – and Capdellà. In Ibiza, the heatwave from August 15 to 18 left a maximum of 41.4°C in Sant Joan de Labritja. In fact, in the Ibizan municipalities of San Juan de Labritja, Ibiza, and San Antonio, the summer has been the hottest on record. "We thought that if we continued like this, it wouldn't arrive in September," said Guerrero, referring to the persistent heat.
June broke all records
June broke all records: the warmest and driest since 1961. The average was 25.3°C, with an anomaly of 3.3°C. Temperatures rose to 22°C at many stations throughout the Balearic Islands (in Lluc, Palma-Portopí, Palma Airport, in the Alfàbia mountain range, in Puerto de Pollença, in Ciutadella-Son Quim, and in Ibiza-San Juan de Labritja). "On all the islands, except Formentera, it was extremely warm," Guerrero remarked in statements reported by Europa Press.
However, July was very warm across all the islands, with an average temperature of 26°C and an anomaly of 1.2°C; and August, with an average temperature of 26.5°C and an anomaly of 1.2°C.
The heat wasn't only felt during the day. Tropical nights (minimum temperatures not falling below 20°C) and torrid nights (minimum temperatures not falling below 25°C) have soared. At Palma airport, 52 were recorded, 126% more than normal, and in Calvià, 41 (+86%). Formentera recorded 11 torrid nights, 40% more than usual. In some parts of Mallorca, such as Palma-Portopí and Capdepera, torrid nights were up to five times higher than normal.
Precipitation
In terms of precipitation, the summer has been, overall, normal, although with marked contrasts. Menorca even received slightly more rain than expected (38 l/m², +8%), while Ibiza only had 8 l/m², 75% less than normal. In Mallorca (36 l/m², -16%) and Formentera (14 l/m², -40%), rainfall was also below average.
Guerrero emphasized that "June was extremely dry, with only 0.1 l/m² collected (the normal figure is 15 l/m²), the lowest figure since 1961." However, July surprised with more precipitation than expected (19.4 l/m² compared to the usual five). August was slightly dry, with 14 l/m² recorded compared to the normal 20 l/m².
Violent phenomena
The summer has also left its mark in the form of violent phenomena: 19 days of storms were recorded (the normal number is 16), with notable episodes on September 9th that caused incidents in Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza. Airports They recorded hundreds of delays and many cancellations due to the rain, which also caused other incidents such as floods that were drag street furniture to Son FerriolThe maximum wind gust was 91 km/h in Capdepera, and waves at sea reached 6.7 meters at the Maó buoy.
