Man arrested for napping in Palma while grandchildren played on the ledge of a third-floor apartment
The police found the two minors walking on a ledge with half their bodies suspended in the air while the neighbors tried to alert the adults of the dwelling
PalmaThe National Police have arrested a man in Palma, allegedly accused of having neglected his two minor grandchildren, one of whom was about to fall from a third-floor apartment while walking on the building's cornice.
The events took place last Saturday afternoon, when several neighbors alerted 091 after observing two small children on the cornice of a third-floor apartment, with part of their bodies suspended in the air. When the officers arrived at the scene, they confirmed that the two minors were walking on a narrow cornice. At one point, the older of the two was about to fall, increasing the risk for the children.
The neighbors had been ringing the doorbell of the dwelling for some time, but no one was responding from inside. Given the situation, the police deployed various measures to try to prevent a possible fall. While one of the officers placed padded objects on the ground floor as a preventive measure, another managed to speak with the minors from the window of the third-floor interior patio. The officer tried to convince them to return inside the dwelling.
The officers manage to get them to safety
After several minutes, the police officer managed to gain the trust of the children. The two minors returned inside the home calmly and in an orderly manner, with the objective of avoiding any stumbling or falling. In parallel, another officer managed to rappel down the facade from a neighbor's home and access the interior of the dwelling to take charge of the two minors.
It was then that the children's grandfather appeared, who, according to the National Police, stated that he had just woken up from a nap. Shortly after, the minors' parents arrived, who took charge of their children. The officers considered that the man's conduct would have put the lives of the two children at serious risk and proceeded to arrest him as the presumed author of a crime of child abandonment. The two minors finally remained under the custody of their parents.
