PalmThe Secar de la Real Residents' Association has criticized the Court after learning of the City Council and Ibavi's plans for a 110-unit building on one of the neighborhood's plots. In a press release, the Secar residents complain that they had to learn about the project through the press and that they were "not informed or consulted at all." "The right to citizen participation in the neighborhood design process is essential," they emphasize. They also point out that not all the housing units would be public and that they would have only one room.

"We are aware of the housing emergency we are experiencing in the Balearic Islands; however, we will not tolerate this crisis as an excuse to promote excessive and unplanned urban development policies," explains the neighborhood association. In this regard, residents point out that the new building, planned for a plot near the Riskal complex, would mean an increase of more than 2,000 people in the neighborhood, which would cause a "collapse of public and transportation services," they argue. "None of the facilities linked to population growth, such as educational, healthcare, or social-healthcare facilities, have been developed," they point out.

For all these reasons, they have expressed their opposition to this change in the use of municipal land for public housing facilities, which would be subsidized with public funds. Sources from the association state that they have also submitted a request to Palma City Council to access the reports prepared by the Urban Planning Department. "We want to remind everyone that having municipal land available does not mean that everything has to be concentrated in the same neighborhood," they comment. Along these lines, they cite the example of Pere Garau, "where there is a large population that does not have access to the necessary municipal services or facilities," they comment.
