The Government accelerates the private medical school
It is declared a strategic project and allows for the modification of the main use of the plot where the center of the Catholic University of San Pablo will be located, which will become a teaching center.

PalmThe government has taken no more than 20 days to implement the decree it approved to accelerate projects and has already granted the status of "special strategic interest" to the private Faculty of Medicine and other health studies promoted by the Beato Luis Belda University Center, affiliated with the Catholic University of San Pablo CEU. This declaration allows it to be located in the well-known Riskal building, a business project that failed and had failed to consolidate any of the activities it hosted.
This project will now be able to benefit not only from expedited processing and full institutional support, but will also be able to take advantage of the recently approved decree law when obtaining everything from urban development permits to the planned uses and activities. Its promoters may even be able to obtain exemptions from some stipulations included in the Palma General Plan that could have impeded or complicated its implementation. To begin with, the primary use of the plot where the center will be located will be changed to teaching, "which will facilitate the implementation of the new university facilities," the Government itself admits.
Also subsidized centers
In fact, the decree law explicitly refers not only to new projects such as the private medical school, but also to the expansion and renovation of private educational centers "supported with public funds." In these cases, strategic project status may also be requested, as the works will benefit from the expedited processing and exemptions provided for by the law.
In any case, according to the Executive in a statement, "the new university center will strengthen the offer of healthcare degrees and increase the number of places in the Balearic Islands in high-demand degrees, which will help meet the growing need for healthcare professionals."
The Government makes no secret of the fact that, thanks to this declaration, the religious initiative "will have to be carried out in accordance with the principles of priority, preference, and speed before the Administration."
They had already purchased the Riskal University.
The San Pablo CEU University Foundation will be able to open its first university center in the Balearic Islands, with an expected investment of more than 40 million euros. The future Beato Luis Belda University Center, affiliated with the CEU San Pablo University, will be located in the recently acquired Riskal building on Antonia Martínez Fiol Street in Palma.
This building, which had been vacant for a decade, will be converted, according to the developers, "into a modern biomedical campus, recovering a strategic space in the city and giving it a new lease of life linked to knowledge and health." The renovation will be carried out in two phases, reusing the existing structure. The religious organization expects to open in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Training Offer
The center will offer academic training focused on Health Sciences, with initial degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Psychology. In later phases, according to the promoters, "bilingual degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy will be added, responding to the demand for qualified healthcare professionals in the Islands and the generational renewal needs of the Spanish healthcare system."
San Pablo CEU has more than 90 years of educational history and has four universities in Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, and Seville, and almost 30 educational centers.
