The PP does not censure Armengol for “serious interference” in the powers of the Consell
The Popular Party abstained from the motion presented by Vox following the publication by the Speaker of Congress in X, where she criticized the withdrawal of direct aid to the OCB and Jóvenes por la Lengua (Youth for Language).
The Speaker of the Congress and Secretary General of the PSIB, Francina Armengol, criticized the Consell de Mallorca government team with a post on her 'X' profile. Eliminate direct aid to the Balearic Cultural Foundation and to Youth for LanguageThis is a demand that Vox has repeatedly made to its government partners since the beginning of the legislature. Armengol considered it "a clear attack" on the island's own language. Therefore, the far-right party presented a motion of censure against Armengol at Thursday's plenary session of the island council for "serious interference in the powers of the Consell de Mallorca." The Vox spokesperson in the island council, Toni Gili, stated that "it's time to stop lecturing" and that Armengol "should mind her own business." Along the same lines, he warned that "she should be worried that Koldo and Ábalos might spill the beans."
For his part, the spokesperson for El Pi, Antoni Salas, considered that the censure motion the far right is calling for against Armengol "could also include the censure of Toni Gili to attack the town councils and the OCB (Barcelona Convention Bureau), and also to defame Joan Alcover." Along the same lines, the spokesperson for the PSIB (Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands), Catalina Cladera, jokingly suggested supporting the compromise proposed ironically by Salas and defended Armengol's right to express her opinion on the actions of the right and the far right.
The spokesperson for the People's Party (PP), Núria Riera, opined that Ms. Armengol "could explain how she managed the pandemic." However, she justified her party's abstention on the motion brought by their coalition partners, stating that the PP "does not participate in censure motions because they are smokescreens." Gili expressed surprise at his coalition partners' abstention. "I'm surprised she isn't receiving overwhelming support, but what surprises me most is the PP's position, because they participate in demonstrations against certain censures, but then, when they're presented with an opportunity, they don't point the way to censuring Ms. Armengol," he said.
