The Son Bonet platform accuses the Government of silence and inaction regarding Aena's project
Son Bonet Pulmón Verde denounces the lack of positioning of Marga Prohens' Executive and demands an urgent meeting and a clear rejection of the photovoltaic megaproject in Marratxí
PalmThe Son Bonet Pulmó Verd (SBPV) platform has expressed its “indignation” towards the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, for the lack of a clear stance on the photovoltaic megaproject that Aena plans for the Son Bonet area, in Marratxí.
The collective assures that, despite Prohens' initial support for the defense of public open space when she was in opposition, this commitment has “disappeared” since she joined the Government in July 2023. According to the platform, the silence of the regional Executive regarding the project is “enslaving” and shows institutional “inaction” in defending the territory.
Son Bonet Pulmó Verd recalls that in recent years several milestones have been achieved against the project, such as the withdrawal of the environmental impact assessment for the photovoltaic megaprojects and sustained social mobilization for over six years. Nevertheless, they warn that Aena's project “continues to advance in administrative and economic viability” as long as alternatives are not promoted by the institutions.
The platform insists that it has proposed the creation of an urban forest as an alternative, which should be promoted by the Marratxí City Council, but regrets that, to date, they have only received “words and no concrete action”. In parallel, Son Bonet Pulmó Verd positively values the Marratxí City Council's stance against the project, despite considering that it arrives “too late” after almost three years of conflict. The collective asks for more specificity from the Council and demands to know if the urban forest alternative will truly be promoted.
Furthermore, the platform calls on the mayor, Jaume Llompart, to facilitate a meeting with the President of the Government and to demand a “clear and firm” stance from the regional Executive against Aena's project. Finally, Son Bonet Pulmó Verd once again brings three main demands to the table: an urgent meeting with the President of the Government, an explicit stance against the megaproject in Son Bonet, and the effective involvement of institutions to guarantee the protection of public open space.
