ManacorThe Ses Llumetes shipwreck, or what everyone knew until now as the Portocristo underwater museum: A two-million-euro reef funded by European funds, which was supposed to transform the harbor entrance into a showcase of reproductions of various ships historically sunk in the town, will no longer be built. The great attraction to draw specialized national and international tourism, announced at the end of the last legislature, could not meet the required deadlines and procedures. This, which had been known for a few months, however, left a question in the air until now: Where did the project's two million euros go? Have they been lost?

Because the latest news known (and brought to light by this magazine) was that AIPC, the Portocristo party allied with the left-wing government team, had attempted to carry out the acquisition of the large mansion known as Costa den Blau (officially Bordils street), a large built-up extension and land at the top of the local beach area. But the lack of agreement among the property's own family had prevented reaching an economic agreement.

In this past ordinary plenary session of October, however, the AIPC councilor, Ant貌nia Llodr脿, clarified where those European millions that could not be justified in a project that, simply, has not even begun to become a reality, have been redirected. "They have not been lost but were made available to the Manacor City Council for some renovation works that have been done on the municipal building on Major street".

Sketch of what the museum project was supposed to be.

In the face of opposition criticism, the Councilor for the Coastal Zone now explains that since the Ses Llumetes project had to follow a longer path than the tender would have had and there was not enough time, "it had to be halted." "But the money has not returned to Madrid, but to the common purse of all the people of Manacor." First to the works on Major Street and now back to Portocristo, even though they were works that should have been done anyway and all of them will be 'invisible'.

"It is true that they are not tourism projects"

"It is true that it will no longer be a tourist project that will benefit businesses, because all the actions will be buried, but it will improve the quality of life for all the residents of the port". In this case, more than 2 million, specifically 2.3, will go towards fixing the continuous headaches of the Son Servera street-road, which floods every time it rains with a bit of intensity, drowning homes and commercial establishments. 699,000 more for the drinking water network, which a few months ago left the coastal center without running water for days. 12,000 for road painting and 187,306 to improve the lighting of Llevant, Migjorn and Ponent streets.
