PalmRegistered unemployment in the Balearic Islands rose by 86 in September compared to the previous month (+0.3%) to 26,054 unemployed, although year-on-year unemployment fell in the islands by 6.8% (1,908 fewer unemployed), according to data published this Thursday.

With the September increase, unemployment has now risen for two consecutive months in the Balearic Islands for two consecutive months. However, this total number of unemployed is the lowest figure for a September since 2001. Since the start of the comparable historical series in 1996, unemployment has risen in September most times in the Balearic Islands (28 times), while it has fallen only once. The increase last month was the smallest increase since 2023.

By sector, unemployment fell in construction, down 91 (-2.6%); industry, 17 fewer (-1.43%), while it increased in services, another 147 (+0.78%); agriculture, 23 more (+7.52%) At the end of the month, the sectors with the most unemployed are services (18,937), construction (3,415), while the sectors with the fewest unemployed are agriculture (329) and industry (1,173).

Regarding gender, of the 26,054 unemployed registered in September, 14,645 were women, 139 fewer (-0.9%) and 11,409 men, which represents an increase of 225 in the number of unemployed compared to the previous month (+2%). In September, unemployment among young people under 25 increased, with 707 more unemployed than at the end of the previous month (+28.9%), while unemployment among those aged 25 and over decreased, with 621 unemployed (-2.64%).
