The Education Ministry is pressuring unions to force a medical evaluation of Miquel Roldán.

In February, a joint committee was held with the Administration, and with their votes, the union organizations vetoed the evaluation of teachers.

PalmThe Regional Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, has stated that he respects and understands that families are not sending their children to the Maria Antònia Salvà Primary School due to the presence of Miquel Roldán, the teacher convicted of child abuse, at the school. Regarding the negotiating table, which met in February, although at that time it failed to achieve the required majority to refer the teacher for a medical examination, Vera asked the unions "to make a decision" and for the body "to exercise responsibility." Should the table fail to make another decision, Vera did not venture to say what might happen, as a new scenario would arise.

The Regional Ministry is now awaiting a report from the Teaching Staff Board to urgently call a meeting of the Joint Committee, which includes the Administration and the unions. This committee, by absolute majority, can authorize the teacher to undergo a medical examination that could ultimately order him to be removed from contact with minors and placed in another location.

Against the clock

The Regional Government received the request for a report this Tuesday and has 48 hours to issue a decision. If the response were to arrive today, the joint committee could be convened this Friday, while if it were to arrive tomorrow, the meeting would be convened on Monday. The Education Minister insisted that the solution to the problem involves this joint committee, after the Administration had already unsuccessfully sought the teacher's disqualification through the courts. Vera admitted that "it is not easy" to propose a solution to the problem. "Absolute respect. I can understand their position and I understand their concern. We try to alleviate a situation, but sometimes it is not easy," he added, referring to the decision of families not to send their children to school.

A meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday between the Ministry's legal staff and the lawyer representing the families at the center, although the minister indicated that it will be a technical meeting.
