Alarm in Ciutadella over suspicious batches dumped in the port
The Ciutadella City Council demands that the regional administration restore the space and carry out all necessary environmental actions
PalmThe Ciutadella City Council has demanded this Tuesday that Ports de les Illes Balears (Ports IB) assume its responsibility and immediately remove the residue of supposedly polluting sludge from the dredging of the port, which has been dumped in the colàrsega.
The City Council demands that the regional administration restore the area and carry out all necessary environmental actions to guarantee the full recovery of the affected zone.
The municipal government reminds that it is Ports IB's responsibility to undertake the correct management of the waste derived from the work carried out in the port and warns of the seriousness of what has happened, for which it demands explanations and that responsibilities be clarified.
In fact, the City Council has also informed the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard of the events. As the City Council recounts, several residents alerted on Tuesday morning to the potentially polluting discharge that has been carried out and which comes from the drainage work done in the port.
Municipal technical services have immediately moved to the port to carry out an initial inspection and have taken samples of the discharge to have them analyzed and determine its possible environmental impact.
Subsequently, Ports has been contacted, which, according to the local administration, had at no time warned it of its intention to discharge in this municipal property.
