PalmaThe slingers of the Balearic Islands will have to prove their aim once again, but this time on a game board. Foners: Herois de la Mediterrània is the new proposal from Roqueta Lúdica, a family cooperative game in Catalan that turns these historical figures into protagonists of a fantastic adventure to defend the coast against the arrival of different types of enemies.
The main mechanic of the game revolves around aim. Players have a special die that they must throw in different ways to try to hit the enemies and slow their advance. Thus, the result of each throw does not depend solely on chance, but also on the participants' skill when executing it. The game is cooperative, so the players do not compete against each other, but must make decisions together to manage to defend the coast. Each round poses new challenges and the participants will have to coordinate and take advantage of the results obtained to decide the best way to face the enemies.
This combination of aim, strategy, and cooperation is one of the differential elements of the proposal. The games are designed to be dynamic and accessible so that both regular board game players and families with children can participate. The starting point of Foners is a figure linked to the history of the Balearic Islands. The slingers were known for their skill with the sling and acquired a special reputation as warriors and soldiers. The game takes this imagery and transforms it into a fantastic adventure.
Growing projects
The proposal thus follows a line that Roqueta Lúdica had already explored with its previous games: creating entertainment products in Catalan that incorporate references to the culture and environment of the Islands. The label, born in Mallorca, began its catalog with Canamunt vs. Canavall, a card game set in the conflict between the two noble factions of Palma, and subsequently published Misteris de sa Roqueta.
With Foners: Herois de la Mediterrània, Roqueta Lúdica expands this commitment to games with an identity linked to the Mediterranean imaginary and faithful to the native language. The game is designed to reach the island public, but also other Catalan-speaking territories.
