PalmaThe Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, assured this Monday that most of the points in the framework agreement with teaching staff have already been met and announced that the negotiation of a new agreement for the next four years will begin in 2026. He said this before meeting with the Board of Non-University Teaching Staff of Mallorca, as part of a series of meetings with union representatives from all the Islands.

As he explained, of the 36 points included in the agreement, most have already been executed, with an investment of over 125 million euros to improve the working conditions of teachers. Among the highlighted measures are the reduction of teaching hours to 18 hours in secondary and primary education, which has allowed for the creation of 387 new teaching positions, as well as the promotion of measures for work-life balance, training, and job stability.

Vera also highlighted the implementation of the difficult and very difficult to fill complement, with an annual cost of more than 8.5 million euros, and the increase in the tutor complement, which from the next academic year will go from 34 to 60 euros. In addition, he recalled the implementation of the Llull system and the reinforcement of staff, with 1,122 more teachers compared to the 2022-2023 academic year. If educational psychologists and specialists in diversity care are added, the increase reaches 1,865 professionals. In parallel, the Ministry is working on the modernization of educational infrastructures and the air conditioning plan. As reported, the drafting of projects for 12 centers has already been put out to tender and a study has been commissioned to identify needs in 20 more.

The minister also announced that the new teaching staff decree in preparation will include proposals such as concentrating teaching hours into four days to facilitate work-life balance. In terms of remuneration, he recalled the refund of 2.9% of salary supplements, with a cost of 31.5 million, as well as the update of payrolls with a 2.5% increase in the housing allowance and the recognition of professional career, measures that amount to 21.6 million annually. The meeting with the Teaching Staff Board of Mallorca is part of the schedule of meetings that Education has held in recent weeks with representatives from Menorca and from Ibiza and Formentera.
