PalmaThe single ticket for the Palma Municipal Transport Company (EMT) will increase from two to three euros starting next year. The hike has been approved by the City Council's Urban Planning and Environment Commission with the favorable votes of the PP and Vox.

The increase, however, will not mean any change for regular users who have the citizen card or other subsidized transport passes. In the case of the citizen card, free travel will be maintained provided that the state and regional administrations keep the current subsidies in place. Therefore, the new price of three euros will apply to travelers who do not have any transport pass and choose to pay for the journey directly on board the bus.

The modification of the ordinance on non-tax public patrimonial benefits still has to be put to a vote at the municipal plenary session, scheduled for next Thursday. If it is definitively approved, the tariff change will come into effect next year.

As reported by the City Council, the measure is part of the tariff and technological integration process between the EMT and the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM).

MÉS per Palma denounces a "massive price hike"

The proposal has received criticism from MÉS per Palma, which considers that the increase will make Palma the city with the most expensive single ticket in the State. The eco-sovereigntist group compares the three euros that the journey will cost with the 1.40 euros in Seville, the 1.50 euros in Madrid and Malaga, and the 2.90 euros in Barcelona.

"While families are struggling to make ends meet, the PP and Vox are approving a massive fare hike. Policies against people's well-being," the group has denounced.
