PalmThe president of the Consell de Eivissa, Vicent Marí, has spoken out against the planned expansion of the island's airport. In statements to IB3 Ràdio, the president assured that these works "go against the tourism model proposed by the Consell" and also criticized harshly that he had to learn about both the expansion and the details of the works through the media. "We don't have to grow in quantity, we have to grow in quality," Marí stated.

It is not only the Consell de Eivissa that is against it, but hoteliers and environmentalists also oppose this measure. Hoteliers demand that a balance be sought between the current situation and the future expansion of the airport and argue that the most important thing is not to bring in more tourists, but that these changes are accompanied by a plan to guarantee services on the island and offer a quality experience to visitors.

For their part, GEN-GOB sources have completely rejected the expansion and have described it as "counterproductive". "It cannot be that the number of tourists arriving each year continues to increase, what needs to be done is the opposite, to find a way to reduce the arrival of tourists," he stated.

It should be remembered that the tender for the project for 10.5 million euros has already been made public, with a total budget exceeding 220 million. Now, the design phase will last five years and the works are expected to be ready in 2034. Among other improvements and expansions, with the works, the airport will have 15 more boarding gates, that is, it will go from the current 17 to 32.
