A man dies during a controlled burn that caused a forest fire in Gorg Blau

The fire, which broke out in Escorca, affected 1.2 hectares of scrubland and was extinguished by the Mallorca Fire Department and Ibanat.

PalmA man died on Tuesday while burning stubble, which sparked a forest fire in the Gorg Blau area, in the municipality of Escorca. The fire broke out at 12:50 p.m. and was classified as having a severity index of 0, as the agricultural burn ended up affecting forest land, according to the Mallorca Fire Department, the Balearic Institute of Nature (Ibanat), and the Regional Ministry of the Presidency. The burning had been previously reported to the Government, and firefighters from the Mallorca fire stations in Sóller and Inca, as well as personnel from Ibanat, who took charge of extinguishing the blaze, were deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the teams found that the flames had spread out of control. Initially, they were unable to locate the person responsible for the fire, although they found their vehicle and a dog in the area. Once the search operation was activated, they located the man's lifeless body, with burns. At this time, it is unknown whether the fire was the direct cause of death. The fire was brought under control at 2:05 p.m. and was declared completely extinguished at 4:30 p.m., after affecting approximately 1.2 hectares of scrubland.
