PalmThe plenary session of the Marratxí City Council approved this Tuesday unanimously two motions presented by MÉS per Marratxí to demand measures against the acoustic impact and operational safety problems associated with Son Bonet airport.

The initiative urges Aena to implement a permanent acoustic monitoring system in the municipality and to carry out an independent study on the impact of air traffic on the residential areas of Marratxí. It also calls for hourly restrictions, limitations on repetitive flight school circuits, and measures to reduce noise over inhabited areas.

Furthermore, the council asks Aena, AESA, and ENAIRE to study the implementation of AFIS or air traffic control services given the high traffic density and the proximity of the aerodrome to densely populated areas.

The motion also expresses concern about the planned reform and expansion of the Son Bonet platform, which could increase the airport's operational capacity. In this regard, the plenary session calls for any future expansion to be preceded by acoustic, environmental, and safety impact studies, as well as public information and municipal participation processes.
