PalmThe arrival of a cold front starting this Sunday will bring a significant change to the weather in the Balearic Islands, with a gradual drop in temperatures and the first snowfall of the year. This is the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which warns that precipitation could fall as snow starting Monday, the eve of Three Kings' Day. According to the Aemet delegate in the Balearic Islands, María José Guerrero, this Friday and Saturday the Islands will still be under the influence of Storm Francis, with intervals of cloud cover and mild temperatures for this time of year, especially in Mallorca, where highs could reach 18 degrees Celsius. However, starting Saturday night, the storm will begin to interact with a mass of Arctic air, giving way to a pocket of cold air that will affect the archipelago from Sunday onwards. That day, overcast skies are expected, with widespread rain until midday and a significant drop in temperatures, with highs not exceeding 14 degrees Celsius in Mallorca. On Monday, January 5th, the wintry weather will continue, with even lower temperatures, moderate to strong north and northeast winds, and occasional rain. The snow level will be around 1,200 meters, dropping to 700 meters overnight, with possible frost in the Tramuntana mountain range. Looking ahead to Tuesday, Three Kings' Day, the forecast calls for overcast skies with isolated showers and snow above 500 meters, although the snow level is still somewhat uncertain. Highs could reach between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, with lows that, in some areas, could fall below freezing.

If current models are confirmed, a new drop in temperature with frost could occur early Wednesday morning, while by the end of the week, temperatures could begin to rise again after several days of winter chill in the Balearic Islands.
