The Court condemns the first deputy mayor of Mercadal for tripping a family member.
He is found "criminally responsible" for the fall suffered by a woman, whom he tripped during a domestic dispute.

CitadelThe first deputy mayor and councilor for Sports, Urban Development, Commerce, and Cleaning of Mercadal, Cristóbal David Pons Sintes, of the Popular Party, was sentenced "as criminally responsible for a minor offense of bodily harm" for intentionally causing the fall of a woman, a relative of his, whom he tripped while walking.
The substitute judge presiding over the Ciutadella Court of First Instance and Investigation No. 1, Elena Campos García, considers the assault, which occurred on February 5 of this year and was recorded by one of the participants, contradicting his statement, to be proven. The fall caused the victim bruises on both arms and one leg, injuries for which he required medical attention over the course of seven days.
The court ruling details that the procedure was initiated following the Mercadal Civil Guard report, which recorded the complaint filed by the woman. According to the ruling, both the Public Prosecutor's Office and the private prosecution brought by the victim requested a conviction for the accused.
The ruling, which has now become final, imposes a fine of 180 euros on the councilor and warns that he will be imprisoned if he does not pay the relevant amounts. The sentence also requires him to compensate the victim for the damages suffered.
Former president of the Partido Popular del Mercadal y Fornells (People's Party of Mercadal and Fornells), Cristóbal Pons, ran in the 2023 municipal elections as the top candidate for mayor. He obtained only two seats, but against all odds, he reached an agreement with the Entesa de l'Esquerra (part of Más por Menorca) to govern, which left the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in the opposition. Thanks to this agreement, Joan Palliser is now the mayor.
