PorreresThe MÁS councilor for Porreres, Tomeu Garí, has apologized and resigned from his position at the Porreres City Council. He did so at the municipal plenary session this Monday, where he handed over his councilor's sworn address. "They are simply apologizing publicly, and from this moment on, I am stepping aside," said Garí, who has been a councilor for the Porreres City Council for the past six years.

Before this "simply," Garí noted that "as I suppose you all know, a few months ago some media outlets reported that I closed off some porches without a building permit." "I don't think this is the time or place to defend myself, but this action has made me reflect and admit, above all, that it was a mistake, and, as a representative of the town, I think this action deserves rectification: my resignation as councilor," he added.

Garí's decision took some by surprise, as the councilor's resignation was never on the agenda. But moments before the plenary session, the resignation was submitted due to urgency. Once the urgency was approved, Garí was able to make it effective.

Even so, the militants and members of the local MÉS group were already aware of Garí's intentions. Not surprisingly, he had already announced this a few weeks ago. Therefore, at this Monday's municipal plenary session, in addition to a good number of residents and MÉS supporters who wanted to show their support for Garí, the general coordinator of MÉS, Lluís Apesteguia, and MP Maria Ramon were also in attendance.

His move alongside Tomeu Garí, as he himself has acknowledged, is due to the complaint about some illegal works he carried out without permission on a plot of land on the Ronda Illes Balears. He decided to leave the front line of municipal politics.

"I am leaving happy and satisfied with the work I have carried out these years and I encourage, now more than ever, my colleagues from the MÁS party for Porreres: you do not stop working for the benefit of Porreres, I extend my hand to you for everything you say.

A long applause from all the councilors and the public served to thank Garí for the work done in these six years in opposition to the Porreres City Council. Garí. Afterwards, Xisca Mora (El Pi), mayor of Porreres, expressed her surprise at Garí's decision and that "having a resignation in the plenary session is not pleasant." She thanked the councilor for the work done and recalled that "this decision honors you and shows how MÁS wants to stand out for our transparency"

End.

Curiously, Garí, despite having resigned from the plenary session and invited by the mayor, remained seated in his councilor's seat throughout the entire session. However, he didn't participate or vote. He seemed uncomfortable in a place where he seemed more inclined to be at home than there. This became evident when, after the plenary session ended, he left early. The mayor managed to give him a hug, but not the deputy mayor. The same didn't apply to the PP councilor, Joan Obrador. But Garí wasn't in the mood for chatting or hugging, so he ultimately left the chamber alone, as the photo in this article illustrates. However, he would later reunite again with the support of his colleagues.
