Massive bottling and destruction: the Son Bonet green lung is vandalized again.

This Saturday night, in the Pla de na Tesa neighborhood and as part of the Summer Festival, a group of seven young people entered this green space in Marratxí. The youths destroyed trees and signs and left manure and trash everywhere, according to the Son Bonet Pulmó Verd platform.

According to reports, two members of this platform who went to criticize them for their behavior were met with violent response from the group of young people, who proceeded to intimidate them, threaten them with death, and insult them indiscriminately. The platform members, seeing themselves in danger, called the Marratxí Local Police, who arrived 20 minutes later, the organization explains.

The members of the platform indicated and explained where they could find the young vandals who had threatened them, and even expressed their willingness to accompany them to search for and identify the youths. The platform reports that the local police rejected the offer and refused to act.

The Son Bonet Lung Verde Platform wishes to express its strong condemnation of this and many other similar actions that occurred and affected various residents of the town. According to them, this is not the first year that, during the Pla de na Tesa Summer Festival, there have been numerous disturbances that turn the town into the scene of a massive bottle party, with "the total and absolute passivity" of the competent authorities, in this case the City Council.

"This passivity on the part of law enforcement and the Marratxí Town Council is incomprehensible, as they allow underage drinking and bottle-feeding in the town square and elsewhere," the residents explain.

It's worth remembering that Aena has been planning a photovoltaic plant in this park for years. The conflict even reached the Senate in 2022, where the platform was supported.

Inaction

MÁS por Marratxí has also deeply regretted the lack of foresight and inaction of the municipal government team in the face of last night's massive bottle throwing during the Pla de na Tesa festivities. They have also condemned the acts of violence and vandalism, with damage to trees and clashes with volunteers.

The spokesperson for MÁS por Marratxí, Aina Amengual, has been highly critical of the role of the mayor and deputy mayor: "It is unacceptable that the mayor, Jaume Llompart (PP), as the first person in charge of the City Council, and the deputy mayor, head of Cien Sabin, Pedro Bestard (Vox), believe that every year the Pla de na Tesa festivities become more popular among young people."

"The green lung is an exemplary volunteer project, carefully cared for by many residents, and it cannot become a dumping ground or a scene of violence due to the irresponsibility of the government team," she said. Therefore, MÁS por Marratxí is calling for the immediate creation of a preventive and educational protocol for popular festivals, with greater informational presence from the Local Police, coordination with neighborhood associations and groups, and a reinforced cleaning plan to protect both natural spaces and neighborhood coexistence.
