Xisco Ametller, historic mayor of Mercadal, dies
Sources from the PSOE Menorca have deeply regretted his loss, which occurred after a long illness.
PalmXisco Ametller, the long-serving mayor of El Mercadal, has died at the age of 63. Mayor of the municipality between 2010 and 2023, he led the socialists of El Mercadal and Fornells for over a decade.
Ametller also served as president of the PSOE Menorca Island Executive Committee between 2017 and 2025. Sources within the PSOE Menorca have deeply regretted his passing, which came after a long illness.
The Menorca PSOE Island Executive Committee wishes to publicly thank Xisco Ametller for his unwavering dedication throughout his years as mayor, which were highly beneficial for the municipality. "His drive made transformative projects possible for the towns of Mercadal and Fornells, such as the new school, the pedestrian zone in the center of Mercadal, the summer markets, and exemplary work in economic and cultural revitalization recognized throughout the island," they explained.
Sources within the People's Party of Menorca have also expressed their deep sorrow at Ametller's death. Coia Sugrañes, president of the PP in Menorca, stated that "Xisco dedicated a large part of his life to serving his neighbors with responsibility, dedication, and commitment, always putting the well-being of his municipality first."
The People's Party of Menorca and all its local branches join in mourning the loss of a person who dedicated his life to the common good and wish to convey their deepest condolences to his family, friends, the residents of Mercadal and the PSOE of Menorca.
