The Barcelona-Palma air route, the busiest in Europe
The Barcelona-Palma route leads the European ranking with almost two million passengers in 2024.

PalmThe air connection between Barcelona and Palma became the busiest in all of Europe in 2024, with a total of two million passengers, according to the latest report. World Air Transport Statistics prepared by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Globally, however, the busiest route was the one connecting the Korean cities of Jeju and Seoul, with 13.2 million passengers, followed by the Bogotá-Medellín route, which led Latin America with 3.8 million. In Africa, the busiest connection was Cape Town-Johannesburg (3.3 million), and in North America, the one from New York JFK to Los Angeles.
The report also highlights that the United States remains the world's largest aviation market, with 876 million passengers, followed by China, with 741 million. Globally, premium class travel grew 11.8% to 116.9 million people, representing 6% of total passengers.
These data have been obtained from the activity of more than 240 airlines to provide a complete picture of the functioning and health of the global airline sector, IATA funds explain.
