Inca takes to the courts the bases to choose the management of the Principal theater: "It is a complete outrage"

PalmaThe Inca City Council has initiated legal actions against the agreements reached this Thursday by the Board of Trustees of the Inca Principal Theatre Foundation. In an extraordinary session, representatives of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Council of Mallorca, together with the votes of the Popular Party of Inca, approved the new bases for the selection of the management of the Principal Theatre, despite having unfavorable reports from the legal services and the secretary of the Foundation itself.

The president of the Foundation and mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno, accompanied by the vice president, Alice Weber, and the member of the Board of Trustees, Andreu Caballero, has described the events as "a complete outrage" and has accused the Council of Mallorca and the Government of acting in a coordinated manner to attempt to control the selection process and interfere in the ordinary functioning of the Foundation.

"Yesterday an unusual event occurred. Approving terms without the support of the Foundation's legal services creates absolute legal uncertainty and exposes the process to being challenged by any of the candidates who may apply," pointed out Moreno.

The mayor has remarked that the Inca City Council considers it necessary to go to court to guarantee the legality of the procedure and the interests of the Foundation: "We cannot allow a selection process to be launched with an unfavorable legal report. We are talking about a very important cultural institution for Inca and we cannot accept that decisions of this significance are taken outside of legal guarantees."

They request a precautionary suspension

In this regard, Moreno has announced that the City Council will request the precautionary suspension of the agreement approved by the Board of Trustees: "We will take legal action from the Inca City Council to stop this procedure, with the request for the precautionary suspension of the agreement that was made yesterday".

The proposal to initiate these legal actions was endorsed today by the Information Commission and will be submitted for approval to the Plenary of the Inca City Council during the next plenary session, which will take place on Thursday.

"Our obligation is to defend the Principal Theatre of Inca, its autonomy and its proper functioning. We do not question the need to select a new management; what we question is that it is wanted to be done through a procedure that the Foundation's own legal services have warned is not in accordance with the law", added the mayor.

Finally, the Inca City Council has reiterated its firm commitment to the Principal Theatre and has recalled that the City Council assumes a very important part of the burden of the daily management and financing of the facility. Although the ownership of the Foundation is divided equally between the three institutions, with 33.3% participation each, the Inca City Council demands real co-responsibility also in expenses.

Inca contributes 400,000 euros annually

Currently, the Inca City Council contributes 400,000 euros annually to the Principal Theatre, while the Council of Mallorca contributes 100,000 euros and the Government of the Balearic Islands, 150,000 euros annually.

"Inca is making a very significant effort to maintain and operate the Principal Theatre. Therefore, we demand that this responsibility also translates into real participation in decision-making and financing. What we cannot accept is to assume the greater part of the economic effort and, at the same time, for the City Council to be left on the sidelines of fundamental decisions for the future of the theatre," concluded Moreno.
